About the Cowichan Music Festival
Cowichan Music Festival was founded in 1949 by an enthusiastic Parent Teacher Auxiliary. The first Festival began with 50 entries.
The 2023 Cowichan Music Festival had a total of 580 entries in the disciplines of Dance, Piano, Instruments and Bands, Vocal Choral and Musical Theatre Voice. This was the 74th Annual Cowichan Music Festival.
We operate with a very small executive, but many, many enthusiastic volunteers. We have no government funding, except for the occasional grant. Our Financial Budget this year was approximately $54,000, with much of this coming from community groups and individuals. Our donors enable us to provide awards (money) of approximately $9,000 to many participants.
We are affiliated with the Performing Arts B.C. This is our provincial organization and each year we select several participants to attend the Provincial Festival.
With a grant received from the Cowichan Valley Regional District, we have been able to purchase computers, buy a computer software program for Registrations and update our Website.
